On a July day in 2010 the doorbell rang at Gunnella's home. She greeted Vala, an Icelander she'd never met. Vala had something she wanted to share.

Vala Kristjánsson is a passionate collector, searching flea markets for treasures. She recycles small unusual things in her jewelry. She discovered a painting at the Kolaportið, the Reykjavík flea market titled Landslag / Landscape, signed Guðrún Ólafsdóttir, 1983. She bought it for 2,000 ISK / $16.35 USD.

Gunnella remembered the painting. It was purchased along with others for a guest house. The guest house changed owners and this art found its way to the flea market, where Vala found it, and then to a visit with Gunnella.

In 1983 Gunnella had signed her name, Guðrún E. Ólafsdóttir, not using Gunnella until years later. Vala has her treasure and Gunnella had a return down memory lane and making a connection with another Icelander.
